The Little Dude Puts Eskimo-3 To The Test...

I’m in the midst of what is often referred to as, ‘The Terrible Twos…’

Before I became a mum, I didn’t really pay much attention to toddlers and their misbehaviour. Sure, I would see tantrums happening at my local supermarket for example, but I wouldn’t think much of it, other than mutter something like ‘I’m glad that’s not happening to me,’ and carry on about my business, never giving a second thought to the stressed out mother of the said toddler.

Well, now that I’m on the other side of the glass I can say I have a lot more sympathy for mums of toddlers and I know the pure hell and agonising fear of a public toddler meltdown and at least in my house, ‘The Terrible Twos’ are very real.

Battles can start with my little dude over the most mundane of things… literally anything from, which shoes to wear, to his toy cars, to me not being able to say make the wind stop! Toddlers can be unreasonable in the extreme. Everything is a drama, everything is the end of the world and I walk through these battlegrounds on a daily basis.

Meltdown in action!

One of my biggest face offs with him though, is over food. I really struggle to get a good balanced diet into him. Breakfast is probably his best meal of the day when he’ll eat brown toast, muesli, cereal or porridge… the day rapidly goes downhill from there and by the time dinner comes, I’m lucky if I can get him to even lick a vegetable.

And I worry. I worry he’s not getting enough of the important nutrients, vitamins and fatty acids he should be having, because it does have a difference, not only in his mood and concentration (AKA how many meltdowns he’ll have!) but also in terms of his immune system. Because as any mum of small children knows, once they step foot into a crèche or pre-school, you’ll be hopping on and off the germ merry-go-round for the foreseeable future.

So what to do? Well I like to try and add supplements to his food when and where I can. It doesn’t always go to plan of course, and sometimes he won’t take them no matter how much I disguise them. So for the next month, I’m planning on trying out the new the Eskimo-3 Kids Supplement in wait for it… Tutti Fruitti flavour! Yes, it tastes just like some kind of treat they aren’t normally allowed to have and yet it is sugar and aspartame free!

Packed with immune boosting vitamins D3 and vitamin E, it’s also got high levels of omega-3 DHA, omega-6 and omega-9, which have incredible benefits for both concentration and mood improvement! It sounds like a bit of a Holy Grail of a combo, if it can help ward off the germ nasties and perhaps stem the meltdowns too!

According to the science behind the supplement, Omega-3 fatty acids are the most critical building blocks of a child’s brain; they are considered essential and must be obtained through diet or supplementation. Without these important fats, it can become difficult for children to concentrate, learn new information and balance their moods properly... in other words MELTDOWNS!

A 2012 study found Omega 3 DHA had a profound improvement in reading age, concentration and learning ability in children, lower levels of DHA were attributed to poorer reading and impaired performance. A more recent study revealed that increased omega-3 levels can boost behaviour, attention and literacy in ADHD children.

I’m going to see if he’ll let me trial it with him for a month and I’ll check back in half-way to see how we’re getting on.

And I’ll also have a prize of a two month supply of Eskmio-3 as well as some branded goodies up for grabs too at the end of the trial!
