I’ve a confession to make.
I’m a 100%, cast-iron, to-the-max, unashamed movie nerd.
There I said it.
I’ve been a complete movie nut since I first clapped eyes on a rugged Harrison Ford running away from a huge wrecking ball in Raiders of the Lost Ark. I was raised on Marty McFly and his time travelling adventures with Doc Brown and ran around pretending to be Princess Leia in Star Wars, while spouting the words to these movies and more, verbatim! In fact, I would plague my two cousins to watch movies with me and drive them to distraction as I said each word of dialogue perfectly.
As I grew up, I began to expand my repertoire and watched films from a diverse range of genres. Horror, action, adventure, drama, romance, sci-fi and even foreign language films. Although I was far too young, my brother would let me watch movies like Alien and Die Hard when our parents were out. While other kids raved about their favourite bands, I went on at length about the latest films and directors and counted the days until I could go and see the next big flick. I fell in love with the greats like Spielberg, Scorsese, Zemeckis and John Hughes and enjoyed discovering the new crop of directors like Christopher Nolan, David Fincher, The Coen Brothers, JJ Abrams and Quentin Tarantino.
TV was a close second. I was hooked on the antics of Knightrider, The A-Team, MacGyver and Quantum Leap. As I grew up, I began to love series like My So Called Life, Friends, Sex and the City, The X Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and a million more I could name.
Then box sets became big. I can remember binging, literally staying up bleary eyed watching just one more episode of series like 24, Band of Brothers and Lost.
Needless to say, the arrival of Netflix has been nothing short of manna from heaven. Having access to a host of films and TV shows whenever I want them is life changing… so much so, that I wonder how on earth we survived without them.
Whether it’s original Netflix content or independent productions, I just love the on demand nature of it and the steadily high quality of the shows offered.
So when I got the chance to get aboard the Netflix Stream Team? Well let’s just say I was quicker than Usain Bolt off the blocks.
